The entry period for the WGN Morning News Royal Wedding Contest ("Contest") runs from 5am (CST) on Thursday, March 3, 2011 to 5pm on Wednesday, March 16th, 2011 ("Entry Period"). The sponsors of this Contest are WGN-TV, Meyers Castle, Heffernan Morgan, HIP Salon, Shelley's Bridal, Formally Modern, Dinkel Bakery, Martin and Martin Inc., Apple Vacations, Riva, Arlington Dental, Hot on One Salsa, MagnetStreet Weddings, George Street Photo & Video, Becca Kaufman, and Hampton Inn. The Contest shall be subject to these Official Rules, and by entering, all participants agree to be bound by the terms and conditions herein.
1) NO PURCHASE NECESSARY TO ENTER OR WIN.
2) How to Enter: Only an eligible couple as set forth below ("Couple") may enter; no individual entries will be accepted. To enter, log on to wgntv.com/wedding (the "Contest Website") during the Entry Period. Couple must complete and submit the official entry form along with a .jpg photo attachment (size 1mg or less) of the couple and the story of their love; why they should receive a 'royal wedding,' in 500 words or less. All entries must be submitted online, and received by March 16, 2011 by 3pm. Participants may enter only as a Couple, and the limit is one entry per Couple. Sponsor's clock shall be the official clock of the Contest. Sponsors may contact entrants to obtain additional pictures.
3) Eligibility: Both members of each Couple must be US citizens who are legal residents of Cook, DeKalb, DuPage, Grundy, Kane, Kankakee, Kendall, LaSalle, Lake, McHenry and Will counties in Illinois, and Jasper, LaPorte, Lake, Newton and Porter Counties in Indiana who are 21 years or older as of March 4, 2011, engaged (or similarly committed as of March 4, 2011), not currently married, and planning a wedding ("Ceremony"). Couples must be willing and available to participate with staff from Sponsors in certain pre-Ceremony activities and to hold a Ceremony and honeymoon incorporating the elements set forth below. If you are unwilling or unable to do so, do not enter this Contest. Winners who unwilling or unable to do so will be disqualified, and all prizes shall be forfeited. Each member of the Couple must hold a valid U.S. passport, have never been convicted of a crime of any nature (other than misdemeanor moving violations), and must have nothing in their background that would be an embarrassment to Sponsors as determined in their sole discretion. Each member of the Couple must also be willing to authorize, undergo, and cooperate with a background check if requested by Sponsors. Employees (and the employees' immediate family members and those living in the same household) of the Sponsors and their advertising companies, parent companies, affiliates, subsidiaries, promotion and delivery contractors and/or public relations companies, are not eligible to participate. A potential winner may be requested to provide the Sponsor with proof that the potential winner is the authorized account holder of the e-mail address associated with the winning entry and that all eligibility requirements are met. THIS CONTEST IS VOID WHERE PROHIBITED BY LAW AND OUTSIDE the aforementioned Illinois and Indiana counties.
4) Finalist Selection: A panel of judges from the WGN-TV will judge essays based on the following criteria: creativity, 33%; enthusiasm, 34%; and the most compelling story, 33%. The three Couples with the three highest essay scores will be named Finalist Couples. Entrants agree that all decisions made by the panel of judges relating to any and all issues related to this Contest are final and binding.
5) Finalist Couple Notification and Announcement: Three (3) Finalist Couples will be selected by WGN-TV judges, subject to verification and eligibility. WGN-TV will attempt to notify the Finalist Couples by telephone or by e-mail using the information provided in the entry form on or about Wednesday, March 16. If a selected Finalist Couple cannot be contacted or does not respond by 3pm on Thursday, March 17, if one or both members of a Finalist Couple do not fulfill the eligibility requirements, if one or both members of a Finalist Couple do not adhere to the Official Rules, or if the prize notification is returned as undeliverable, that Finalist Couple will be disqualified, all prizes will be forfeited and WGN-TV may select a new Finalist Couple by the same criteria set forth above. On March 23, the Finalist Couples will be required to appear on the WGN Morning News at a date and time designated by Sponsors. Failure to do so will result in disqualification.
6) Required Documentation: Each member of each Finalist Couple will be required to sign and return an Affidavit of Eligibility, Liability Release and a Publicity Release and such other documents as are required by Sponsors. Failure to return all such documents set forth herein within two days of receipt of same will result in the Finalist Couple being disqualified and another Finalist Couple may be selected from remaining eligible entries, based on the criteria set forth above. The winning couple will be required to provide proof that they are currently not married and must be willing to obtain a marriage license to confirm they can be married within 30 days.
7) Winning Couple Selection: Once the three Finalist Couples have been determined and announced, WGN-TV will post names and pictures of the Finalist Couples on wgntv.com and conduct on-line voting on the Contest Website from Wednesday, March 23, 2011 at 5am to Monday, March 28th at 10am. During the online voting, members of the public will be allowed to vote for their favorite among the three Finalist Couples. Vote as often as you wish. Voters must be 13 years of age or older to register and vote. The Couple with the most votes will be deemed the winning Couple (the "Winning Couple"), subject to verification and eligibility.
8) Winning Couple Notification and Announcement: Sponsors will attempt to notify the Winning Couple by telephone or by e-mail using the information provided in the entry form by noon on Monday, March 28, 2011. If a Winning Couple cannot be contacted or does not respond by noon on Tuesday, March 29, 2011, if one or both members of a Winning Couple do not fulfill the eligibility requirements, if one or both members of a Winning Couple do not adhere to the Official Rules, or if the prize notification is returned as undeliverable, that Winning Couple will be disqualified, all prizes will be forfeited and the Couple that finished second in the online voting will be deemed the Winning Couple. The winning couple must be available the weekend of April 2, 2011 for wedding dress choices and tux choices. Three pictures, front and back, of wedding dresses chosen by the bridal sponsor, and Tux choices will be taken, as well as an engagement photo. The Winning Couple must be available the weekend of April 9, 2011 for the bride to take three, front and back, pictures of potential hairstyles chosen by the hair stylist. The Winning Couple must be able to appear on WGN Morning News on Wednesday, March 30, 2011 and on Wednesday, April 6, and be available to get married on the morning of April 28, 2011 at the Meyers Castle and attend the reception that will start that afternoon at 4pm and run until 9pm. Other opportunities to appear on WGN Morning News Wedding Wednesdays may occur during the course of the promotion.
9) Public Voting for Elements of the wedding: There will be a public voting component of the Contest that will determine certain elements of the wedding. The viewers will vote on the following: the menu for the reception after the Ceremony, hair style for the bride, bride's dress, groom's tuxedo, invitations, table arrangements/flowers, cake, wedding bands, tiara, and the honeymoon destination. Winning Couple understands that viewers will be given three options and will vote on which of the three options should be incorporated into the wedding. Winning Couple understands that they are required to abide by the choices of the WGNtv.com voters and will have to incorporate the element that receives the most votes in each category. Voting for different wedding elements will occur between Wednesday, April 6, 2011 at 5am and April 27 until noon. Sponsors will designate the times during which the public can vote on each of the elements. Vote as often as you wish. Voters must be 13 years of age or older to register and vote. By entering, each entrant agrees, if selected as the Winning Couple, to participate in the activities set forth herein, to abide by the results of the online voting as determined by the Sponsors with regard to particular elements of the Ceremony and to attend and participate in the Ceremony. If one or both members of the Winning Couple do not abide by the standards set forth above or do not participate in the activities set forth above as requested by Sponsors, the Winning Couple will forfeit the Grand Prize.
10) Prize: Grand Prize includes: 1) pre-Ceremony activities, 2) the Ceremony live on WGN Morning News (April 28, 2011), 3) a reception at the Meyers Castle, and 4) the honeymoon. Pre-Ceremony activities include hair-styling and make-up by HIP Salon (ARV $165). Ceremony will be held at Meyers Castle, (1370 Joliet St., Dyer, IN 46311) on April 28 and will be performed by an officiant either provided by WGN-TV, or provided by the Winning Couple, at their expense, between 8:30-9am. The ceremony will only be five minutes in length, due to filming for WGN-TV. Reception for up to 75 guests will be held at the Meyers Castle from 4pm-9pm on April 28, 2011 and will include food, drink and the room for the ceremony (ARV: $10,000) (NOTE: The ARV for a wedding reception at Meyers Castle is usually over $25,000. The reason this wedding is valued at $10,000 is because it is only for 75 guests). Event designers Heffernan Morgan will provide the tables, chairs, linens, table settings, flowers for bridal party and ceremony event design (ARV $20,000). Cake for 75 guests will be provided by Dinkel's Bakery (ARV: $265). Bride's gown provided by Shelley's Bridal (ARV: $1,200.) Groom's attire provided by Formally Modern (ARV $486.) 14k gold and 14k white gold wedding bands provided by the Martin & Martin, Inc. (ARV $2,000.) Rehearsal dinner for up to 20 people provided by Riva, (700 E. Grand Ave., Chicago, IL 60611) (ARV $5,000), alcohol not included. Extra guests at the wedding reception and rehearsal dinner will be at the expense of the Winning Couple. Invitations for 75 provided by MagnetStreet Weddings (ARV $1,000). Reception and ceremony will include photographer/videographer provided by George Street Photo and video, which includes an album of photos and an HD BlueRay DVD of their wedding) (ARV $2,650). A 12-piece orchestra will be provided by Becca Kaufman Orchestra (ARV $10,000). Teeth Whitening provided by Arlington Dental (ARV $700). Two (2) ballroom dance or salsa lessons will be provided by Hot on 1 Salsa (ARV $400). The couple will also win an overnight stay at the Hampton Inn for the evening of April 27 (ARV $170).
The honeymoon must be taken by April 27, 2012 and will consist of a trip for two (2) to one of three Apple Vacations at Riu Palace Hotels and Resorts as determined by online voting. The trip includes roundtrip charter air out of Chicago O'Hare, transfers to and from the hotel, seven (7) night hotel accommodations at specified Riu Palace Hotels and Resorts, all meals and the assistance of an Apple Representative. Taxes and other expenses (spa treatment, phone calls, etc) are the sole responsibility of the winners. Destinations include: either one (1) 7-night stay at Riu Palace Riviera Maya (Riviera Maya, Mexico), or one (1) 7-night stay at Riu Palace Tropical Bay (Jamaica), or one (1) 7-night stay at Riu Palace Pacifico (Riviera Nayarit, Mexico) (ARV: $4,000). The honeymoon prize will be forfeited if the winner fails to claim prize by deadline. Prizes are not assignable, transferable or redeemable for cash. Once booked, travel dates are final and will not be extended and cannot be changed. Travel is not permitted during holiday periods specified by Apple Vacations including both five (5) days prior and after specified holidays. No room upgrades. Federal, state and local taxes, if any, are the sole responsibility of the winners, who will receive a 1099 tax form reflecting the actual value of the prize.
All expenses not specifically listed herein are the responsibility of the Winning Couple. Prizes are not transferable or redeemable for cash, and prize substitution will not be allowed, except at the sole discretion of the Sponsor. ARV (approximate retail value) amounts above are estimates only and winners will not be entitled to compensation if the actual amount varies from the ARV. Properly claimed prize will be awarded, but in no event will Sponsors award more prizes than are provided for in these Official Rules. Scheduled appearances on WGN News programs are subject to cancellation without notice due to breaking news or other developments.
11) Other Conditions of Entry: Each Couple member represents and warrants as follows: that the essay is the original creation of one or both members of the Couple, has not been copied in whole from any other work, has not been previously published, has not been previously submitted in another contest, does not violate the rights of any other person or company (including but not limited to privacy rights and copyrights), as determined by Sponsors. Essays must be in English. Essays that do not comply with these Official Rules shall be disqualified. Entrants agree to indemnify, defend and hold Sponsors harmless against any and all liabilities, losses, damages, claims, debts, investigations, fines, penalties, costs, expenses and settlements (including attorneys' fees and costs of litigation, settlement, judgment, interest and penalties) arising out of or related to a breach of the foregoing representations and warranties. All entries become the property of the Sponsors and will not be returned or acknowledged. Entrants grant to Sponsors a world-wide, perpetual license to use their Essays and photos in any manner related to the Contest, without prior notice, approval or compensation, including but not limited to the first right to publish the Essays and photos in any medium. Winners are responsible for cancelling prior arrangements at their own expense to accommodate the wedding events schedule.
12) Release: By entering, each Couple member on their own behalf and on behalf of their family, friends and invitees, agrees to release, waive, and hold harmless Sponsors and their affiliates, subsidiaries, parent companies, prize providers, advertising and promotional agencies, and all of their officers, directors, shareholders, employees and agents from and against any and all claims, losses, damages, and liability arising from injuries, damages, costs, or expenses of any kind (including without limitation attorney's fees) incurred as a result of the contestant's participation in this Contest and/or acceptance, use, or misuse of the prizes.
13) Publicity: By entering this Contest, each Couple member agrees to allow use of their name, voice, photograph, likeness, video appearance and any information provided on the entry form, and their essays, in any medium of communication, including but not limited to print, Internet, radio and/or television and for any purpose, including advertising, promotional or other purposes, by Sponsors and their licensees and affiliates, without additional compensation. Entrants also agree to participate in all activities Sponsors may request to publicize the Contest.
14) Internet: Sponsors are not responsible for printing or typographical errors in any Contest-related materials; for entries that are lost, late, misdirected, deleted, incomplete, inaccurate, or garbled or entries that are processed, reported, or transmitted late or incorrectly or are lost for any reason, including computer, telephone, paper transfer, human or other error, or for electronic, computer or telephonic malfunction or error, including inability to access the Contest website, or process any transaction thereon. If for any reason this Contest is not capable of running as planned, or if this Contest or any web site associated therewith (or any portion thereof) becomes corrupted or does not allow the proper administration of the Contest and processing of entries in accordance with these Official Rules, or if infection by computer virus, bugs, tampering, unauthorized intervention, actions by entrants, fraud, technical failures, or any other causes, in the Sponsors' opinion, corrupts or affects the administration, security, fairness, integrity, or proper conduct of this Contest, the Sponsors reserve the right, at their sole discretion, to disqualify any individual implicated in such action and/or to cancel, terminate, modify, or suspend this Contest or any portion thereof. In the event this Contest is cancelled during the Entry Period, the judges panel will select three Finalist Couples applying the criteria set forth above to all eligible, non-suspect entries received prior to the time of the action or event warranting such cancellation. In the event this Contest is cancelled during the voting for the Winning Couple, the Winning Couple will be the Couple with the most valid, non-suspect votes received prior to the time of the action or event warranting such cancellation. If such cancellation, termination, modification, or suspension occurs, notification will be posted on the Contest website. ANY ATTEMPT BY AN ENTRANT OR ANY OTHER INDIVIDUAL TO DELIBERATELY DAMAGE ANY WEB SITE (INCLUDING THE ENTRY SITE) OR UNDERMINE THE LEGITIMATE OPERATION OF THE CONTEST WILL RESULT IN DISQUALIFICATION.
